Burnsy, my liver genetically produces four times as much bad cholesterol than it needs to. No amount of diet, excercise or snakeoil will bring it down to a normal level, without the help of statins. The only side effect I got from my initial prescription was minor fatigue. My doctor changed me to another statin and I'm now right as rain with cholesterol down to normal levels. Beware of over zealous 'nutritionists' promising the world. My father died way too early due to high cholesterol before statins were widely available.
